Augustus Cole, colloquially known as the "Cole Train", is one of the 5 main protagonists in Gears of War and Gears of War 2. Cole is a former Thrashball star player who joined COG and became a member of the Alpha Squad. After the majority of the Alpha Squad was unfortunately killed by the Locust, he and his teammate Damon Baird joined Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as new members of the Delta Squad at the Tomb of the Unknowns. His enthusiasm during combat is intense and is full of adrenaline. Cole's voice in the game is done by Lester Speight. The character of Cole or Cole Train is based on Terry Tate's character from 2003 Reebok commercials.

The Cole Train is a very confident and agressive person, known for his obnoxious attitude and "head-on" quotes. He has short black hair with brown eyes and a very muscular build, His arms are three times the size of the other players in the game and he does not wear arm protection in the game. He wears a sleeveless uniform probably to show off his physique, which was carved out during his Thrashball days. Cole is best known for saying "You Can't stop the Train baby" which is a very common thing in Gears of War 1. Cole comes armed with a lancer and shotgun, and for the most part relies only on these weapons. In Gears of War 2, Cole is again with the Delta Squad and ends up rescuing them on one occasion before joining them on the assault on the Locust base.

When he played Thrashball the number on his jersey was 83

Cole is not playable in campaign mode (including co-op) but he is available in versus mode for Gears of War and Gears of War 2.
