COG stands for Coalition of Governments and represents the human forces that fought the war against the Locust Horde in Gears of War. When the Locust Horde attack on Sera began, the humans destroyed their own civilization to prevent the Locusts from taking it, and the COG continued the fight against the Locust Horde.

[edit] Battle Strategy

In Gears of War, Delta Squad, a branch of the COG, attempts to retrieve the Resonator which will map the Locust tunnels, so that the Lightmass Bomb can wipe out the Locust Horde once and for all. The operation is carried out under the orders of Colonel Hoffman. After finding and deploying the Resonator the squad discovers that it did not fully map the tunnels, however, Delta Squad was able to find a Geobot with enough tunnel data to deploy the Lightmass Bomb and eliminate the Horde. Members of the COG are know as Gears.

Gears of War 2 will continue Delta Squad's story after the detonation of the Lightmass Bomb.
