The campaign will feature four-player co-op and two new playable characters that join in the story; Jace Stratton, Anya Stroud, and Samantha Byrne. There's a new arcade mode, that allows players to go the "opposite direction" in the campaign. Mutators allow players to shape, voice, and other abnormal things to make the players feel free to experience the way they want to.
[edit] Weapons
Retro Lancer: Described as a "halfbreed between a rifle and shotgun". It's appearance as the lancer, but in replacement of the chainsaw, it has a bayonet and can shoot brutal rounds if shot at close range.
Digger Launcher: A strange weapon that shoots piranha-like creatures underground that rise up at high speed and kill opponents.
One Shot: Similar appearance the the sniper, the one shot is very powerful and it's recoil-less. It can dispatch most enemies in a single shot.
Incendiary Grenade: Lights up enemies in flames.
Other weapons like the hammerburst, has been redesigned or improved. Also, almost every weapon has it's very own execution, but doesn't mean you can be able to do it. Epic has stated that its something that you have to earn in order to use.
Heavy artillery will return from the Locust, like the catapult Siege Beast that fires torched balls to its enemies. Since the locust lack turrets, they created a turret called Multi-turret. This turret can be equipped with a variety of weapons. The Silverback, is a mech vehicle that will be usable in the campaign mode and was invented by the C.O.G.
[edit] Multiplayer Maps
"Thrashball": A large arena, where Cole used to play the sport Thrashball, Gears of War's spin-off of America's counterpart: Football.
"Overpass": This map level changes and it takes place in Jacinto while it's about to sink.
"Drydock": A multi-level dock similar to one that COG ships would link up to.
[edit] Beast Mode
This new online mode is very similar to Horde mode. Except, you're not a Gear soldier, but a Locust! This mode allows gamers to actually experience playing varieties of Locust. Of course, with different classes comes with different strategies and the map layout changes. Players can't just jump into different classes of Locust, it has to be earned and unlocked. Waves of enemies attack just as Horde mode, but the COG can have a greater advantage if they get the higher ground.
