The Laverne is a vehicle that's used for the Stranded, which the Strandeds themselves call it the Junker. The vehicle itself used to be a APC, a vehicle with heavy armor and weapons. The stranded used this vehicle for their own benefit and removed most of the weapons and armor off of it and built a type a turret with ultraviolet light. The Ultraviolet light is used for them to defend against the Kryll.

In the Gears of War Campaign, Act 2, Marcus and Dom head out to search for the Junker with its owner, Franklin. Marcus and Dom eventually find it and use it to reach back to Cole and Baird while fighting off against massive amounts of Krylls. The batteries of the Laverne ran out when our heroes made it to the mining facility.
