The resonator is a device that Delta Squad attempts to locate under the orders of Victor Hoffman. The device would supposedly map the underground network of the Locust Horde, so that there would be enough tunnel data to deploy the Lightmass Bomb to finish the Locusts once and for all. Unfortunately, when the device is activated, it doesn't return enough tunnel data and was essentially useless, Delta Squad are demoralized after hearing this news. This is a key moment within the gears of war story.
