The Stranded are the people left to die when failing to reach the Jacinto Plateau after Emergence Day on the Planet Sera, the main location for Gears of War. The Stranded turn up in Gears of War Act 2, in the city of Empyra; where they constructed a secure place from the Locust Horde called the impregnable. The Delta Squad bumped into the Stranded territory when searching for the Junker. They met a Stranded called Chap when retrieving it.

The Stranded stronghold is then destroyed during a Locust seige, forcing the Stranded to retreat into the Hollow in Gears of War 2.
